Huge congratulations to Hal Jin who soloed yesterday evening!! He showed off his PIC skills in N309PS at KRNO, runway 16L as his instructor Levi Mellows watched from the ramp. Great radio communications and smooth landings prove Hal is ready for the next stage of his training which is completing his solo requirements. Hal has been super focused and coming in after work a few times a week, studying at home, and determined to earn his certificate within the timeline he set for himself. The backbone for success with anything is hard work, determination, good planning, and perseverance. Hal definitely displays all that and then some. Congratulations again to Hal and the hard working GBA instructors who have taught him along the way: Levi, Stefan, Sean, and Brenden.

What’s better than one passed check-ride on a Tuesday? How about two! Congratulations to Mustafa Shah who passed his Private Pilot check-ride today in N752DW. It was a the perfect day for an S-turn here, an emergency landing there. That’s what we want to hear! Mustafa has trained hard with us and shows that determination and persistence pays off in the end. Now, off to the next lofty goal of your Instrument rating. However, we strongly recommend you take a breath, celebrate, and go fly to a new airport with a friend for a sandwich.
We interrupt your regularly scheduled Tuesday morning to bring you breaking news…Aviatrix Chris Buckley, mild mannered reporter, call sign "Pink Flamingo,” is now a Commercial Pilot!! Chris took the DPE through commercial maneuvers like power-off 180s, spiraling steep turns, lazy eights, and chandelles, just to name a few. The cool, calm air made it the perfect morning for Chris to show her awesome performance on these maneuvers. What is next for Buckley…hmm, rumor is she might have caught the teaching bug so the next email about her might be when we welcome our newest CFI. Hit the books Chris!! We can’t wait to see what doors this opens for you. Congratulations as well to her instructor Danny Britson! Incredible job by both.
December is one of the best months! Christmas, family and friends (in small groups), shopping (with masks and 6ft distance), and a time to reflect and prepare for new year renewal and set some rock solid goals. Or, you can get way ahead of the game and hit those goals before the new year like Derek Davis did. Today he became a private pilot!! Derek cruised around in N328ME demonstrating his private pilot proficiencies then landed back at KRNO and got the “congratulations!” Derek has been working super hard and coming in early on the frosty mornings to get his hours in before he heads off to work. Those early mornings and hard work paid off because he can now take off and truly start exploring! Awesome job to Derek and his instructor Austin. Enjoy the freedom your hard work earned.
GBA Pilot, and future Naval Aviator (finishing up OCS as I type this) Wynne Allen was recently featured in AOPA's Flight Training magazine! If you do not already have your 6 month FREE subscription, please go to AOPA's website and order it! Great flight training information for pilots at any level. You can also read cool stories about fellow aviators like Wynne. "A good pilot is always learning."
