Despite the looming "storm of the century" threatening to hit us here in Reno, Kevin managed to squeeze in his checkride just in the nick of time. A true embodiment of hard work and dedication, Kevin juggles his time between school, work, and serving in the Nevada Air National Guard – and yet, he still found the time to pursue his passion for aviation. From navigating the skies to serving our country, Kevin does it all with unwavering determination and a love for all things aviation. And hey, Kevin, we've got to ask – how important is it to make sure you have an aircraft booked when you schedule a checkride? 😉 Lesson learned, right? But hey, all's well that ends well – you're officially a licensed pilot now, so let's celebrate your incredible achievement! A huge congratulations as well to Kevin's CFI, Ryan Mill, for guiding him through this monumental milestone. Your expertise and support have played a crucial role in Kevin's success! Congratulations to Scott Dunning, the newest member of the "IT" crowd in the skies! Scott just completed his first solo flight in N37JA at KRTS, runway 08! As a world traveler with visits to 48 states and stamps from 23 countries (not all in a C172, mind you), Scott is no stranger to the skies. And now, he's officially earned his wings to start logging his own frequent flyer miles – talk about upgrading to first class! When he's not debugging code or troubleshooting networks, Scott is busy building a life for his family and enjoying the great outdoors. As a network and IT guy, he's always on top of his game, ensuring smooth operations on the ground and now in the air. Scott's solo flight is not just a milestone; it's a reboot of his aviation journey, with upgraded privileges and access to new horizons. Awesome job Scott! May your future flights be as seamless as a well-written script, your adventures as bug-free as a perfectly coded program, and your love for the skies never-ending. Let's raise a glass (shaken, not stirred) to Colin Powell, who just earned his Instrument Rating and proved that hard work truly pays off – even when the skies are as cloudy as a shaken martini! Despite facing some turbulent weather along the way, Colin, our master mixologist by night and aviator by day, stayed positive and focused on his goal, and the result is nothing short of impressive! From crafting the perfect cocktail to mastering precision approaches, Colin's dedication and precision behind the bar have translated seamlessly into the cockpit. And let's not forget to tip our hats to his CFII, Ryan Mill, for shaking up the perfect blend of guidance and support throughout this high-flying journey! Great job Colin!! Despite juggling a hectic schedule – from full-time work to wrangling farm animals, chasing after kids, and still finding time to pursue his passion for hunting and outdoor adventures, he's added learning to fly to his impressive list of accomplishments! Even with the weather delays and busy days, Kevin stayed determined and focused on his goal, and the result speaks for itself – pure, unadulterated freedom in the air! Soloing at KSPZ, runway 06, in N37JA was just the beginning of Kevin's journey into the wild blue yonder. Huge shoutout to his CFI, Nathan Morin, for guiding him through every twist and turn of this exhilarating adventure! Kevin's story is a reminder that no matter how busy life gets, there's always room to spread your wings and chase your dreams. So here's to embracing the thrill of the unknown, seizing every opportunity, and soaring to new heights – both in the air and in life!  Let's give a warm round of applause to our very own Zach Heywood, who just earned his wings as a private pilot amidst winter's chills! Despite facing some frosty challenges – from storm delays to CFI turnover (the good kind) – he heatedly persevered through it all with sheer determination and grit. Not only does Zach soar through the skies, but he also keeps us cozy as a cuddly blanket with his full-time hustle in HVAC. Talk about juggling hot and cold! And word on the street is, he still manages to find time to enjoy his favorite winter snack – tacos, with a side of extra hot sauce to battle the chill. Now that's what we call a winter warrior! Zach, your radiant smile and unwavering focus warm our hearts. Massive kudos to Nik Joshi and Eric Harned for keeping up with Zach's high-flying aspirations! Keep defying gravity, Zach – the sky's the limit (pun intended)! We're absolutely blown away by your achievements and can't wait to see where your aviation adventure takes you next.  Huge congratulations to Nick Sundstrom, the sky’s newest adventurer! Let’s give three thunderous cheers for Nick as he soars into the blue yonder with his wings of freedom! What an epic journey it has been to conquer the private pilot checkride, but Nick handled it like a true champ, showcasing his skill, grace, and the right stuff for the skies! With Hailey’s helpful ground school nudges and CFI Ryan Mill’s expert guidance, Nick aced his training and soared through his ground school with flying colors! Now, with his certificate of freedom in hand, Nick can take just a little break and trade the classroom for the great outdoors (until instrument ground school starts) and shred some pow pow like a pro! Way to go, Nick! The sky’s the limit for your next adventure!  Hold the phone. Did you hear? Kevin Munson, computer science wizard, simulator master, and G1000 princess has perfected the art of flying in the clouds and is now an instrument rated pilot! And what a beautiful day to do it! After getting bounced around due to Reno’s most recent weather temper-tantrums, Kevin kept a level head and held out for the beautiful weather that we’ve all been waiting for. Kevin has been working incredibly hard to get to this point, from juggling his schoolwork at UNR for his computer science degree to committing to the meticulous training of instrument, he’s done an amazing job and now it’s time to celebrate! Amazing work to Kevin and his partner in crime, CFIII Shane Smith, on this amazing accomplishment!  Wow! What an exhilarating journey for Joe Arango, now soaring high as a private pilot! Amidst the unpredictable weather, Joe seized the moment to flaunt his incredible skills up in the skies, and boy, did he shine! From navigating through challenges to landing back into KRNO as a certified private pilot, Joe's journey is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Despite his packed schedule, Joe's dedication shines through, especially in his role on the night crew, where he ensures planes are prepped and ready for action under the moonlight. It's a testament to his relentless work ethic and passion for aviation. Huge congratulations, Joe! Your hard work has truly paid off, and let's not forget to applaud Nathan Morin, his exceptional CFI, for guiding him along every step of this thrilling adventure! Here's to many more adventures and blue skies ahead!  |
