Congratulations to Reno’s newest CFI!! Ryan McMaster earned this distinguished certification today. Ryan has been preparing like crazy despite having a busy work/life schedule. His concentrated effort paid off. The flight portion of Ryan’s checkride has been rescheduled a few times due to weather, but the cold did not stop him this morning as he pre-flighted at 6am and took off with the examiner. Ryan has had many successes here at GBA: instrument rating, commercial, and now a CFI. Up next is CFII! “Accept the challenges so that you can feel the exhilaration of victory.”

Two more exciting achievements to finish off the week!
First, Alex Ramirez soloed at KRTS, runway 26 in N37JA at just 12.9 hours!! The air was a bit bumpy but Alex pulled it off like a champ as his instructor Danny Britson watched him take his laps. Alexis is an incredibly focused student and has really taken to aviation and it shows in his flying. Now on to your Private pilot certificate! Second, Ben Peters passed his Instrument rating checkride in Silver Springs today. Ben has been coming into town the last couple months for blocks at a time and working with Chief CFI Matt Stubblefield to meet all the requirements for this rating. Today he demonstrated what a proficient pilot he is by passing with flying colors. Celebrate through the weekend guys!! We are so happy for both of you. Two awesome achievements today!! First, Averiekate Sakelarios soloed in N670CS as her instructor, Stephen Weaver, watched with complete confidence. Averiekate is surrounded by airplanes all the time. Works for the airlines, flies with GBA, and focuses daily on her aviation goals. Awesome job Averiekate!! At this rate, your PPL will be earned in no time. Second, Nick Dorricott, whose name should sound familiar because he passed his CFI just a couple weeks ago, earned his CFII today in Silver Springs. Just another goal accomplished on your way to your new and exciting career in aviation. Congratulations to his instructor, Brenden Georg, as well.
How much better can a Sunday get? We are celebrating another success here at Great Basin Aviation with Vincent Griffith passing his Commercial Pilot checkride today in N6025F!! Vince is a local business owner and managed to balance running a successful firm while also completing all the requirements for his Commercial Rating. This adds another level of skills to his flying toolkit. Congratulations as well to his instructor, Bob Bennett. Enjoy the success and all the adventures that await!
It is solo Sunday at GBA!! Two students soloed this morning!! First, Robert Dodge soloed at KRTS, runway 26 in N2291C. Robert lives and dreams aviation. He is at an air show or doing something in aviation all the time. He loves flying and has already been on some pretty spectacular flights with his instructor Emmett Castellan.
Second, Aubrie Nolan flew her first few laps without her instructor, Danny Britson, at KRTS, runway 26 and 08 in N328ME. Aubrie is super motivated and soled at about 15 hours. Aubrie works in aviation with the Nevada Air National Guard and was able to transfer a lot of that knowledge over to her single engine flight instruction. We are so excited for both Robert and Aubrie and their instructors!! Congratulations to all of you! Sunday is for celebrating! Congratulations to Donovan Harrison who soloed today at KCXP, runway 27 in N37JA!! Donovan was let loose in the pattern for several laps as his instructor Nick Mahan watched from the taxi way. Donovan is a full time engineering student, an avid Wolf Pack fan, and also a member of the Nevada Air National Guard. It is so awesome to see Donovan progress toward his Private Pilot. Today was a huge achievement in a long line of successes to come. A little progress each flight adds up to these big results. Congratulations again Donovan!!
Congratulations to Wendy Gammon who became a Commercial Pilot today!! Wendy came to us early last spring wanting to get back into flying after a hiatus while she was raising her kids and working in the health care industry. She set her sights on a new career in aviation and took the steps to get current, earn her instrument rating and now her commercial. She has been working so hard balancing life, her children and all their activities, studying, flying, and being “plane” awesome!! Wendy is incredible and an inspiration! Congratulations to her instructor Emmett Castellan as well. “The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity.” Amelia Earhart. Awesome job Wendy!!
Congratulations to Kinzie McClintick who became a Private Pilot today!! Kinzie has had to reschedule her checkride several times due to cruddy weather and wound up heading out to Elko to take her test this afternoon. It has been such a pleasure working with Kinzie and exciting to watch her along her path to Private Pilot! This newly licensed pilot and stall recovery pro also makes a mean chocolate chip cookie (hint, hint Kinzie…they did not last long). Congratulations as well to Al Hayes, Stefan Arnone, and Nick Mahan, the instructors who worked with Kinzie! You are now licensed to fly Kinzie!! Say yes to new adventures!
Look who stopped by to say hi today! One of GBA's original CFIs and now amazing Compass pilot, Dane Meyerhoff!! It is so great seeing him crush his goals.
