Congratulations to Andrew Spanier on earning his CFII! Andrew, our instructor with the perfect locks, now has an extra fancy acronym on his business cards! Not too bad for a flight instructor by day and accountant by night. If you’ve attended the Monday night study groups he leads, you already know and love (or kinda like) him – and if you haven’t, you’re missing out on some top-notch aviation wisdom (and probably some excel spreadsheet tips). Andrew has been with Great Basin Aviation from the beginning, and his story is one of determination and perseverance. He was working full-time as an accountant, helping out on the line on weekends, and leaving some DNA on a flap edge, he was here any free moment he had. And look at him now – living the aviation dream, teaching all of you, whether it be in ground or flight, and looking good while doing it! His story inspires us all, proving that with hard work and passion, you can truly soar to new heights. Huge shoutout to Andrew and a big thanks to his CFII, Richard Brong, for helping him achieve this milestone. We can't wait to see what's next for Andrew – maybe another acronym or two?

We are beyond excited to announce that the one and only Pablo Stein has earned his Commercial Pilot Certificate! Pablo has been with Great Basin Aviation since he was a student pilot, making the journey all the way from Rochester, NY. Not only did he cross state lines, but he also took his love for aviation international, living in Chile for a bit. Pablo isn't just a talented pilot; he's also a connoisseur of mimosas and a lover of empanadas (8 hours bottle to throttle, of course). Some might say his secret to success is the perfect blend of aviation passion and delicious treats! Pablo’s journey from a student pilot to earning his commercial certificate is a testament to his hard work, perseverance, and passion for flying. We can’t wait to see where his aviation journey takes him next. Whether he's flying over the beautiful landscapes of Chile or navigating the skies of New York, we know he’ll be soaring high! This incredible achievement wouldn’t have been possible without his amazing CFI, Ryan Mill. Awesome job, Ryan, on your dedication, patience, and exceptional guidance. Your commitment to helping Pablo reach his goals is truly inspiring. Join us in congratulating Pablo on this incredible milestone. Here’s to many more flights, adventures, and, of course, mimosas and empanadas!
We were thrilled to welcome back our very own Great Basin Aviation alumni, Connor, to KRNO! This time, he's soaring in with his incredible F-18 fighter jet. Connor’s journey from our flight school to flying one of the world's most advanced aircraft is truly inspiring. We love celebrating all of his achievements, honoring his service, and getting to witness the power and grace of the F-18 up close. It felt like our own private show. Fly high, Connor! We’re proud of you and grateful for your dedication to our country 🇺🇸
Big Congratulations to Rob Schuermann for his first solo flight today at KRTS on runway 26 in N670CS! Despite having a last name that's longer than the runway, Rob absolutely nailed it. From the softball field to the skies, Rob brings his love of being active and staying healthy to every new adventure. With a passion for sports and an unmatched enthusiasm for life, Rob has proven that his energy and determination know no bounds. Whether he's on the ground running bases or in the air navigating the skies, Rob's dedication and hard work shine through. Today marks a significant milestone in his aviation journey, and we couldn't be prouder. Huge shoutout to his CFI, Ryan Mill! These two might be competitors on the softball field, but in the cockpit, they are an unstoppable team. Here's to many more flights, fun, and adventures ahead. Fly high, Rob! The sky is no longer the limit—it's just the beginning!
Big news alert! Let's give a standing ovation to Hailey, our amazing (and occasionally sassy, especially if you're behind on ground school) office manager, who just graduated from UNR with a degree in Geography! Hailey, you've been juggling office duties, moving, vacation planning, killing plants, keeping the instructors and students in line, and helping us navigate through maps and paperwork like a pro, and now you've added a college degree to your impressive repertoire! From answering phone calls, taking flight, to decoding sectional charts, Hailey does it all with a smile and a sprinkle of sass, making our office a brighter and more efficient place to be. We couldn't be prouder of your hard work and dedication, Hailey—you truly deserve this moment in the spotlight! Go enjoy the beautiful beaches of Hawaii, we will have a stack on your desk when you get back.
Say cheese, because we've got some exciting news to capture! Cody Sbranti, UNR grad, full-time photographer, Air Force Veteran, and early morning fishing enthusiast, just took his first solo flight at KRNO, runway 17L, in N37JA! Cody's not just a pro behind the camera lens—he's also dedicated to his studies and finding time to soar to new heights in the sky! With each click of the camera and each solo flight, Cody's passion for adventure and learning shines brighter than ever. His commitment to mastering the art of aviation while balancing his academic and professional pursuits is truly commendable. Let's give a round of applause to Cody for his hard work and determination, both in the air and on the ground. Jackpot alert! Let's shuffle the deck and deal out some well-deserved congratulations to Kevin Marshall for leveling up to CFII status! From his very first flight at GBA to mastering the skies with his private, instrument, commercial, CFI and now CFII, Kevin's journey has been nothing short of a royal flush. Let’s not forget Kevin’s pretty impressive GBA line tech skills, too 😁 With a poker face that could rival the pros, he's shown us time and again that he's all in when it comes to chasing his aviation dreams. His success so far is a testament to his unwavering dedication and impressive skill set. Here's to you, Kevin, and the ace up your sleeve as you deal your way to even greater heights in your aviation career!
