    Friday Evening Solo!

Congratulations to Eric Harned who soloed yesterday evening at Silver Springs (KSPZ), runway 06 in N670CS. Eric was cool, calm, and collected as he flew his first several laps in the pattern while his instructor Eric Tallberg and special guest, his Dad, looked on. Super proud Dad moment! Eric has incredible determination. He works full time, has many family commitments, and spends his evenings flying working on his PPL. Such a huge accomplishment on the path to his Private Pilot. Congratulations to the Eric team!!

    Private Pilot Thursday!

Today has been such a beautiful day to fly and even a more beautiful day to earn a Private Pilot Certificate! That is exactly what Nathan Morin did today!! Nathan’s life is everything aviation. He works in aviation, flies, studies aviation, is an avid planespotter, and pretty much lives, eats, and breathes airplanes. He started working on his PPL last summer and today he celebrated the efforts of all that hard work. He flew N752DW in the north valleys and showed his proficiency in all required maneuvers. Nathan was given some crazy vectors on his way out and back in due to the increased traffic in the pattern and at the airport, but handled them like a pro. Next step is instrument then on to commercial. Awesome job as well to his instructors Levi Mellows and Matt Stubblefield. We are so excited for you Nathan!! Keep up the momentum!

    New Private Pilot!!

Congratulations to Caitlin Burke who became a licensed pilot early this morning. Caitlin passed the oral portion of the checkride a while ago but kept getting delayed on the flight portion due to our winter weather. Caitlin, a local engineer, has been having so much flying with her instructor Stephen Weaver. She is super dedicated and worked so hard toward this goal. But this unstoppable gal isn’t done yet! She is now focused on her instrument rating and, after a well earned break, she will be back in the sky. Awesome job Caitlin and Stephen!! We know there will be plenty of celebrating today :)

    Another new private pilot!!

One more huge congratulations to another freshly licensed private pilot!! Alexis Ramirez earned his PPL today in N752DW as he flew over Northern Nevada and demonstrated proficiency in all his private pilot maneuvers. Great timing for Alexis as he is coming off a tough weekend with the 49ers loss :) Alexis is another goal driven student. Earned his Bachelors degree at 19, been working full time and focusing on his “what comes next.” Alexis is looking at several routes with the doors his license opens including military aviation. We are so happy for Alexis and his future plans. Congrats as well to his instructor Danny Britson!

Great Basin Aviation is turning 2!!

Great Basin Aviation is turning 2!! Come by tomorrow (2/1) and celebrate with us as we feast on cake and share the day with all of you that have helped us grow. Since we became Great Basin Aviation on February 1, 2018, we have soloed 59 students, have 39 students who earned their Private Pilot, 14 Instrument Rated Pilots, 7 Commercial Pilots, 6 CFIs, and 5 CFIIs. 35 of those successes were in 2018, 87 in 2019, and so far 8 in 2020. This does not include flight reviews and pilots that have gotten back into the sky through our rusty pilot program. Great Basin started with two aircraft and grew to nine. Started with three instructors and now have 20. Again, this success is because of students, renters, and aviation advocates and enthusiasts like you!

Come by and celebrate, enjoy some cake, and show your family the aircraft you love to fly! Office will be open at 8am tomorrow morning. We hope to see you and thank you again for choosing Great Basin Aviation!
