    John Soloed!!

Congratulations to John Simonsen who soloed today in N752DW at KRTS, runway 08!! His instructor, Mark Montague, watched from the taxiway as John flew his first few solo laps in the pattern. COVID definitely messed up John’s flight training plans but he is now back at it and determined and focused. Between UNR classes, cracking jokes with Mark, and ground school studying, John has a plan and will definitely get there. He was "feeling pretty good,” as he put on his aviators and strolled out of the office. We hope he is out celebrating (responsibly) right now. Awesome job to John and Mark!!

    Clouds don't scare Sam!

Congratulations to Sam Armstrong for successfully completing his Instrument checkride and becoming Northern Nevada’s newest instrument rated pilot! Sam can attest that this rating is tons of work, lots of flying, and even some fun. Today he took to the sky, missing out on the gorgeous flying weather due to being under the foggles, flew his approaches, reported Bread, and showed the examiner he has what it takes to fly in the clouds. Congratulations to his instructor, Danny Britson, as well! Stay tuned for more news from Sam as he is working on taking his training to bigger and faster aircraft. Awesome job Sam!! This is a well-earned and a significant achievement that is inspiring to many of us.

    Sam is a Private Pilot!!

Who woke up this morning and decided to be awesome?? This guy, Sam Hutton!! Sam passed his private pilot checkride this morning cruising around Northern Nevada demonstrating his skills to the DPE. Sam has been working relentlessly toward this certificate and with the help and guidance of his CFI Mark Montague, today he saw how that hard work pays off as he walked out of the office with a temporary airmen certificate. When asked what he was going to do now, his immediate response was that he is going to take his Grandma flying….awwww. As if we could not like Sam anymore already. Congratulations, Sam!! We are so happy for you and your determination and focus to achieve your goals.

    Zen Master in the Sky

Round Two for October 13: Today, Weston Levine earned the privilege of being able to fly as a professional pilot by earning his Commercial Pilot Certificate. He flew N2291C to a successful check-ride after zipping through his other ratings in relatively short order. Weston loves all things aviation almost as much as a true gym rat loves his protein powder! He’s consistently one of those faces we love to have come visit and have fun with while we share flying stories. Weston plans on flying professionally in his future - just not the airplane he’s pictured with here. That was posed.

    Tuesday Solo!!

Dustin Beauford soloed!! The pattern at KRNO hosted several solo laps as Dustin flew N495SP onto 16L to log his first numbers in that PIC column. A flight he will never forget! His instructor, Levi Mellows, watched proudly from the sidelines watching Dustin grease his landings. Dustin’s work in public service and busy home life keeps his schedule pretty packed, but he makes the commitment to fly a couple weeks and progress through his training. Rather than dreaming about it, Dustin is working for it. Awesome job Dustin!! Congratulations to you and Levi!

N309PS - The New Bird in Town

New to the line, a 1979 Cessna 152 with a 150 HP engine conversion! This aircraft is clean, IFR capable, and ready for you to build time in a more affordable platform. The 152 was an upgrade from Cessna’s popular 150 trainer. This particular bird was upgraded further with an STC for a 150 HP O-320 (raising it from the stock 110 HP with an O-235). The panel is a traditional six-pack with ADSB out, dual com radios, nav with localizer and glideslope, and soon a Garmin 375 touchscreen GPS (currently a KLN94). All the normal checkout requirements are in effect so give us a call and give this mighty little bird a spin! ($115 / hr wet).
