    Edby Soloed!!

Gentlemen, start your engines!! The one and only, Edby Calderon, professional, local car dealership owner, decided to settle for a pair of wings rather than wheels this afternoon and took to flight all on his own! That’s right, Edby kicked out his instructor, Troy Ware, and soloed on runway 08 at KRTS in N670CS! Edby got to test his aviator skills as the finicky KRTS winds picked up, but nothing the machine-master couldn’t handle! It’s apparent that Edby loves the purr of an engine. Even if this one moves a little slower than what he might be used to. Congratulations to Edby and his instructor Troy on this accomplishment! Now let’s get that PPL!

    Brrrrr...

It's 7am, 16 degrees on the ramp, and these guys are smiling...why you may ask? They are going flying!! Beautiful weather today to get at it! Just what Kaitlyn drives over a hour for on these chilly mornings. Here she is with her CFI Lambchop heading out to start the day on a high note (literally). 🚀

    Dylan is a Private Pilot!!

While most people were calling it a day because of winds and turbulence, Dylan Zinio decided to go earn his Private Pilot Certificate! This hard working member of the Nevada Air National Guard has been balancing work, life, and full time school at UNR. He thinks pretty highly of back country pilots, watching Freedom Fox videos late into the night, but we think pretty highly of Dylan for all the dedication and effort he has put in here at GBA. His awesome goal of a career in military aviation is now that much closer. Congratulations to you, Dylan, and to your instructor, Jack Darlington! You’ve done well! Now get off YouTube and start working on your instrument rating 😊

    Another February Pass!

What’s an ag pilot doing at the controls of a 172? Shooting a few precision and non-precision approaches into Reno. That’s what! That’s exactly what Donavyn Morris did today when he piloted N2291C to a successful instrument checkride. Donavyn has been making the trip in from Orovada by plane or car to get this rating knocked out. That’s dedication! When not working on this rating and putting up with an instructor who won’t shut up about baseball (looking at you Ethan), he’s racing dirt bikes, flying a Decalathon, hanging out with his girlfriend and his dogs, or working hard on the airplanes in his family’s Ag business as an A&P (yep, he know how to fix planes too!) Congrats Donavyn! You earned this! Now go relax a bit before you start on that Commercial! Congrats to his instructor, Ethan Chinowsky, too!

    Double Trouble?

Wait, didn’t we just have an announcement of an Eder earning her Private Pilot’s License? Why, yes we did! Today, Gwen Eder, the friendly face so many of us see at the counter coming and going from Atlantic, soared to check-ride success in N752DW! Gwen is also a flight attendant but got tired of looking at the back of the door to the flight deck. She has been been working diligently at this rating with her instructor, Kurtis Horning, and heard the announcement every newly minted pilot cherishes, “YOU PASSED!” Gwen is even the secretary of the Sierra Battleborn chapter of Women in Aviation. Can you see Gwen and her sister cruising along to destinations around the country in a Cessna? I’m seeing a movie in the works. Nice job!

    Dayna is a big deal!

“Oh? You said you needed to see my Driver’s License… sorry, I thought you said my private pilot license, I’m kind of a big deal.” – These are the words of someone with a million awesome points, and that someone today is Dayna Eder! Dayna Eder, GBA’s prime-time doughnut consumer, is officially a certified private pilot! Coming down from Truckee, flying nearly five days a week, and being an influential member of WAI’s Sierra Battle Born chapter, this inspiring aviatrix has worked diligently over the last couple of months to reach this point, and now she can finally flaunt that certificate everywhere she goes! It's incredible to see the progression towards private pilot, and that’s why we give our biggest congratulations to Dayna Eder and her instructor, Kurtis Hornung, on reaching this extraordinary milestone! Let’s keep chasing this dream and enjoy that box of doughnuts 😉
