    Sunny Sunday Solo!!

It was a gorgeous, sunny, calm wind day in the Truckee Meadows. Devron Gonzalez made his way to the airport knowing he would have an awesome lesson, but not knowing his instructor had certain plans for him that would make this flight his most memorable. There they were, conducting pattern work at KRNO when Devron’s instructor, Levi Mellows, told him to taxi back and let him out. At that moment, it got real. Devron was going to solo...And solo is what he did!! Congratulations to Devron Gonzalez who soloed in N37JA this morning at KRNO, runway 16L. Devron flew his first few laps of PIC time as Levi watched from the ramp. The always supportive KRNO tower also really helped make this a flight Devron will never forget. Devron has been super persistent with his flight training, getting in here when he can despite a busy work schedule and busy home life. He has been dreaming about flying since he was serving in the Air Force years ago. Today that dream was a dream no more, it was his reality. Next goal is his private pilot certificate. Awesome job Devron!! Congratulations to you and Levi!

Extra! Extra! Read All About It!

As a super slick marketing professional we probably should have let Sam Roberts write this himself but we are very proud to announce Mr. Sam Roberts took to the sky above Reno today in N670CS for his first PIC entry in his logbook. Instructor Tristan Armstrong watched from the sidelines with confidence - at least he did after Sam got the plane hot started. Not even a wayward shopping bag in the propellor could stop this aspiring pilot from this milestone! Great job today, Sam! Runway, 16L is all the better for it.

    Snowy Sunday Solo!!

Even on these cold, snowy days, awesome things still happen. Today’s daily dose of awesomeness is brought to you by Coraline Dubois. This die hard student pilot braved the freezing temperatures to get some PIC time as she soloed N752DW at KRNO, runway 34R earlier this evening. Her instructor Eric Tallberg shivered on the ramp watching Coraline do exactly what she has been taught; navigate her way safely and proficiently in the pattern showing off some pretty incredible landings. Coraline works full time with the school district serving as a caring, dependable resource for our area youth. On the weekends she spends her “me” time flying the skies of Northern Nevada. Congratulations to both Coraline and Eric!! Those small steps forward with each flight ensured this success. Now onto the next goal of Private Pilot. We are so happy for you!

    A solo before the storm!

Life is about choices. Some people like to fly in airplanes, some of them like to jump out of perfectly good airplanes. Today Tee Jeter made the good choice to stay in the cockpit and fly N752DW solo with the C130s in the pattern for 16L at KRNO. She easily maneuvered her aircraft as her instructor Pete Applegate looked up with pride. Tee is well on her way to cancelling out the (in our opinion) not so good choice of jumping out of airplanes - as she's done thousands of times - while she finishes up her license. She has balanced her time as an aviator with her skill and intellect as a Medical Doctor (good choice) and riding around as an adrenaline junky on her motorcycle (hmmm...). Overall, Tee is a pretty awesome human being and we are super proud of her solo and her time here with the GBA family. Congrats, Tee and Pete!! Time to celebrate!

    Tuesday Solo!

Congratulations to Shan Thiagarajan who made his Tuesday pretty awesome!! This morning, Shan soloed at KRNO, runway 16L in N495SP. The cool air and calm winds gave Shan the perfect conditions to log his first PIC flight. His instructor, Levi Mellows, watched from the sideline as Shan flew some pretty perfect rectangular patterns and demonstrated his smooth landings and take-offs. Shan’s work takes him out of town quite a bit but when he can get in here, he comes in ready to go and always returns with a smile. Even after stalls, steep turns, and unusual attitudes :) Congratulations to Shan and Levi!!
