A new licensed private pilot in the sky!

Congratulations to Andy Abramson who earned his Private Pilot Certificate today!! Andy demonstrated his ability to safely and proficiently fly N495SP around Northern Nevada and meet all the requirements of a private pilot. Andy had a couple new challenges besides the stress of this test…He was flying in the bay area until COVID-19 slowed things down and halted his training. Coming to GBA, he had to learn a new plane, work with a new CFI, new geographical area, new airports, and new airspace. We all know this is a unique area to fly but Andy was able to quickly adapt and succeed. Andy has been traveling back and forth the last couple weeks to complete his training while also working full time. He has a genuine love of flying and can now share that joy with his wife, who is also working on her private pilot. A will finds a way and today Andy found that way! Awesome job to Andy and his CFI Levi Mellows!!

    Catching up with past students!

It is so exciting to see past students fulfilling their dreams! Connor Mannix soloed in N2291C in 2017 and went on to get his PPL and instrument rating through GBA. He was set to get his commercial but he earned a pilot slot with the United States Navy and was quickly sent off to Officer Candidate School, then immediately started his flight training. Yesterday, Connor soloed in the T-6. Congratulations Connor!! You have accepted a selfless calling and we love watching you progress. Keep up the awesome work!

    New Soloed Student!

Congratulations to Cory Kleidosty who soloed in N495SP at KRTS, runways 08 and 14 today! Cory had an exciting first solo flight changing runways and traffic patterns due to the shifting winds at Stead. His instructor, Levi Mellows had full confidence in Cory’s ability as he greased his landings then taxied back to pick him up. Cory’s amazing smile was permanently plastered on his face when he got back. Such a huge step in his aviation journey and path to a career in aviation. Enjoy the celebration Cory!!

    Early Morning Flying

As we start to warm up again, there is no better, calmer time to fly than 6am. Yes, it is rough to roll out of bed, but you are rolling out of bed to go fly!! Best way to start your day is a few thousand feet above the ground in our scenic Northern Nevada skies. Here is CFI Levi and his dedicated, early rising student Dallin, preflighting N495SP to head out to the north practice area before the winds and heat pick up. Several of our instructors and all aircraft are available starting at 6am for our summer hours.
