    Koree Soloed!!

Guess what 16 year old Koree Bostrom was doing at 6am this morning? This young go-getter tasted solo flight, flying her first PIC laps at KRNO, runway 16L, in N37JA!! Koree is an amazing young lady; all star student athlete at Damonte Ranch High School and now a soloed student pilot. Koree is one of the Reno Air Race Association scholarship participants and wasted no time putting those funds to use. She is working through a rigorous ground and flight training schedule with a goal of having her Private Pilot Certificate right after her 17th birthday and right before school starts in early August. If her success so far is any indicator, she will definitely hit her goal. Awesome job to a determined young lady and her CFI Danny Britson!

    Kevin is a Private Pilot!!

Last we saw him he was but the learner, now he is the master!! Kevin Munson, master of the skies and N2291C, is officially a private pilot!  Just in time to beat the smoke and heat, Kevin displayed to his examiner he’s got what it takes to man the left seat, and to no one’s surprise, passed his checkride in none other than the G1000 princess. If he’s not flying airplanes, you can find Kevin studying computer science, practicing on the simulator, or working on his ground school (for fun…). Congratulations to this devoted aviator and his instructor, Troy Ware on another amazing accomplishment! Perhaps Instrument is on the horizon 😉.

    Summer Heat Restrictions

We are moving into the mid 90s and 100s next week, so, as a reminder, summer heat restrictions are in effect. The restrictions for aircraft weight and outside temperature and additional heat related info are as follows:

    • No flights when the outside temperature is 100 degrees +.
    • No more than 75% max gross for flights between 90-100 degrees.
    • No backseat riders for flights over 90 degrees at takeoff.
    • No touch and go’s or practice instrument approaches when temperatures are over 90 degrees.
    • Check winds and temps for when you are set to return as well. If the crosswind runway is not available, are the conditions within your personal minimums?
    • Be prepared for puke.
    • 6 quarts minimum oil.

The schedule is open for 5am flights. It is an awesome time to fly!! The front door of Atlantic is locked until 6 so call the number on the glass door to be let in. Afternoon flights during the summer are hit and miss based on winds and the above restrictions so plan your flights accordingly. If you book after noon, plan on a 50/50 chance of flying. Safety is the number one concern. Then reducing strain on the aircraft engines

Please chat with GBA staff and/or your instructor if you have any questions.

    Will is a CFI!!

Airplane Mode: ON! Will Levin spent the morning with his head in the clouds, literally. This guy is now a CFI!! Will passed the grueling CFI oral to then head up in the thermally Northern Nevada sky to teach his examiner a few things, all from the right seat. Back into KRNO, Will found out he can further share his aviation passion by teaching others how to fly. Will is another zero to CFI at GBA and we could not be happier for him. It has been awesome watching him progress the last couple years from that first discovery flight, solo, private pilot, instrument, commercial, and now CFI. Plus all the ups, downs, obstacles, and incredible successes along the way. This newly engaged fella can keep the celebration going. Bravo Zulu to this Navy Veteran 🇺🇸Awesome job to Will and his CFI Danny Britson!

Pictured is Will today passing his CFI checkride today and his solo flight from March 2020. Hasn’t lost his trademark pose :)

    Happy 4th of July!!

    Happy 4th of July! 🇺🇸

It’s Independence Day! In the midst of all the barbeques, firecrackers, and fun, take a moment to honor the men and women who fought and fight for the freedom that we’re celebrating. And in the spirit of pride and unity, we’d also like to thank you—for supporting small businesses like ours and keeping the backbone of our country strong. Have a great day!

    Your friends at GBA 🛫
