Today is a day where any Mother would be proud. Two of GBA’s finest student pilots left the nest! First, Wes Hall soloed at KRTS, runway 08 in N328ME. Wes is a local physician and as if he needed to add to his already busy schedule of work, family time, and bringing Jenn donuts, he decided to take up flying. Wes is the epitome of successful time management and has demonstrated he can be successful in all endeavors. Today, he added another achievement to the list and saw how well a plane performs in the pattern at Stead without his CFI Sean Torbett next to him. Still heard Sean’s voice in his head though :) Great job to both Wes and Sean!!
Then, our favorite physics brain, Nathan Sargent soloed in N37JA at KRTS, runway 08. Nathan started his journey a while ago with GBA then finishing school, life, and all the craziness we do not expect temporarily got in the way of him reaching this goal. But, he has extreme determination and stayed engaged in aviation with ground school and stopping by the office to give updates and say hi. And, look at him today!! This UNR grad has time logged in that PIC column and is super proud of it. Now he gets to see how freeing it is to take these planes a little further and have some real solo fun. Awesome job as well to his instructor Ethan Chinowsky!

Do you remember the first time you fell in love with aviation? For some lucky kids, it was today at Young Eagles Day at the Stead Airport! This is a program created by the EAA designed to give kids 8-17 an opportunity to experience flight and begin an education in aviation. The program is offered free of charge too! Atlantic Aviation and GBA's very own Kyle Beach graciously volunteered his time today to show some young aviators how awesome flying is! He was able to take several flights with some excited youth as they explored the Red Rock area and got a taste of flight. Awesome work Kyle!! If you are interested in volunteering your time for future events like this, please us know and we will see what we can do to make it work. Aviation is best when shared :)
What’s better than one instrument rated Bennett? How about two! That’s right, Reed Bennett and his dad Bob Bennett have a lot to celebrate on this Cinco de Mayo. Even though Reed was not able to enjoy the gorgeous VFR flying because he was stuck under the foggles, it was worth it because he got out of the plane having achieved his instrument rating! Reed did awesome on his oral exam a couple weeks ago, but was twice delayed on the flight portion of his practical. However, today was smooth sailing and made the wait worth it. Reed picked up the aviation bug and has been pushing forward through his certificates and ratings in between his work with Washoe County School District. This guys was all smiles and we know there are a lot more to come. He has some time building to do, but next up is his commercial certificate. Awesome job to Reed and his instructor Bob!!
Someone missed his morning gym workout today (still had his protein shake) and instead flew a DPE around teaching him a few things. Yes ladies and gents, “Muscles” is now a CFI!! Weston showed his brut brain muscle strength by earning his CFI!! Weston bleeds GBA blue and has worked with us for his instrument, commercial, and now CFI. Even helps in the office every now and then. This is a huge achievement and we could not be happier for him as he celebrates with his kale salad. His next step will be the super rigorous GBA interview process and then who knows, you might see another email soon welcoming him to the team :) Congratulations as well to his instructor Tristan Armstrong!!
“Your focus determines your reality.” – Qui Gon Jinn (The Phantom Menace) Happy Star Wars Day! May the 4th be with you
CFI/CFII Spencer and a couple of his fellow aviators recently had some backcountry fun in the Ciatbria. Check out the smiles on Zach and Paul's face!! Aviation is pretty awesome!
